In the simpler years of the late 1800s to early 1900s, the living room was a vastly different space to the lounge rooms of today.

As you can see by the chairs, here all generations gathered at the close of the day to spend time in each other’s company and engage in some simple activities such as reading books, conversing, or playing a game. In this space, they were not defined by their everyday roles, but were able to simply fellowship with one another.

In the living room you can also see an appreciation of music, with Mrs White’s favourite hymn open on the piano. Can you imagine the whole family and all of her guests gathered around in song?
